GTECH CORPORATION NAMES SHERI SOUTHERN SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES



PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND (US) – September 11, 2008 - GTECH Corporation announced that Sheri Southern has been named Senior Vice President of Human Resources (HR) for GTECH Corporation. Reporting to GTECH President and Chief Executive Officer Jaymin B. Patel, Southern is responsible for providing the overall HR leadership and strategy to ensure that GTECH attracts, develops, and retains a talented and engaged workforce.

“Sheri is a seasoned HR professional with nearly 30 years of experience in the retail operations and technology industries,” said Mr. Patel. “She has an in-depth understanding of all operational areas of an organization and has managed HR for a global company with business-to-business and business-to-consumer relationships. Sheri’s knowledge of the retail and technology sectors, and caliber of experience in HR, will be a great asset to the GTECH team.”

Before joining GTECH, Southern served as the Senior Vice President, HR International, for Starbucks Coffee Company supporting more than 68,000 employees in 42 countries. Under Southern’s tenure, Starbucks was included in Fortune magazine’s “Best Places to Work” survey in eight countries. She also served as the Vice President of Technology for the Webvan Group and HomeGrocer.com, which was an Internet grocer that offered food, nonprescription drugs, and general merchandise to online shoppers in major cities such as Seattle, Chicago, and San Francisco. Prior to that, Southern worked for Safeway, Incorporated, one of North America’s largest food retailers, beginning at the store level and working her way up to become the Director of Information Technology. She is relocating to Rhode Island from the State of Washington.
