GTECH COMPLETES LATEST EXTERNAL AUDIT FOR ISO 9001:2000
PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND (U.S.) – November 4, 2008 - GTECH Corporation announced that the Company has once again successfully completed its latest external ISO 9001:2000 audit of our Quality Management System (ANSI/ISO/ASQ Q9001:2000). ISO 9001:2000 is a worldwide federation of national standards and a quality management system model.
The results of the audit yielded two commendations. “Management is very committed to the effective implementation and continual improvement of the quality management system,” and the “personnel interviewed demonstrated a good knowledge of the quality system, were extremely responsive, and clearly understood the requirements of their job and role in the quality management system.”
The ISO 9001:2000 standard is comprised of eight clauses: Scope; Normative References; Terms and Definitions; Quality Management System; Product Realization; Management Responsibility; Resource Management; and Measurement, Analysis, and Improvement. These clauses reflect an increased attention to customer satisfaction monitoring; communication of quality requirements; and the identification of necessary facilities, skills, and competence.
The two-day audit from August 11-12, 2008 by Sheriff J. Conteh of Quality Systems Registrars®, Inc. (QSR) included the areas of Management Responsibility; Product Realization; and Measurement, Analysis and Improvement. QSR, the first U.S. accredited registrar, provides management system registration services to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, TL 9000, AS9100 and Responsible Care (RC 14001/RCMS). QSR has performed over 10,000 audits since 1991.
GTECH contracts Quality Systems Registrar (QSR) to perform the audit against ISO 9001:2000. GTECH gets audited two times per year by QSR on two to three aspects of the standard during its three-year contract. The results of the August audit yielded one minor non-conformance in Process Approach which was resolved before the conclusion of the audit.
According to Corey Donnerstag, GTECH’s Senior Director of Manufacturing Operations, “GTECH’s Quality Management System strives to make GTECH a world-class organization by ensuring we meet or exceed our customers’ expectations. Throughout our company, we focus on the commitment to continuously improve and prevent non-conformances. We accomplish this through training, the pursuit of root causes, corrective actions, and the establishment of preventive actions.”
Eighty-seven employees throughout GTECH’s Rhode Island locations were interviewed during the audit. GTECH’s next audit is expected to occur in May 2009.
