GTECH’S ACTING CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER AND TECHNOLOGY FELLOW DONALD STANFORD IS INDUCTED INTO PRESTIGIOUS LOTTERY INDUSTRY HALL OF FAME

PROVIDENCE, RI – (October 8, 2009) – GTECH Corporation announced that its Acting Chief Technology Officer and Technology Fellow Donald Stanford has been inducted into the Lottery Industry Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2009. Stanford was honored at an official ceremony that took place on October 7 during the annual North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL) Conference in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

“Over the past 30 years, Don Stanford’s unique vision has fostered GTECH’s journey from a small start-up Company to the industry leader it is today. His tireless efforts helped guide the growth and direction of GTECH’s technology organization,” said GTECH President and CEO Jaymin B. Patel.

The Lottery Industry Hall of Fame was founded by Public Gaming Research Institute in 2005 as a means of honoring those who have done the most to make the world lottery industry the great success that it is today. Membership is reserved for lottery professionals who have promoted excellence and integrity throughout their careers. Each year, former inductees nominate and vote on the final recipients.

Since arriving at GTECH in 1979, Stanford has held every technical leadership position within the Company including, Director of Software and Systems, Vice President of Advanced Development, and Chief Technology Officer. Stanford served on the GTECH Board from 1986 until 1989, and helped GTECH achieve 15 unique patents – more patents in lottery technology than any other company.

“Don’s technological savvy and business acumen were instrumental in designing the first-ever dedicated lottery point-of-sale terminal, the GT-101, which led the way to GTECH’s first lottery contracts,” continued Mr. Patel. “We are most thankful for Don’s ongoing dedication to GTECH. With his guidance, I am confident that we will continue to provide state-of-the-art lottery technology to customers around the world.”

Alongside Stanford’s dedication to professional excellence, he is an active member of the community and works diligently to promote the education and achievement of others. Since 1996, Stanford has served on the board of Times2 Academy Charter School in Providence, Rhode Island, where he sponsors after-school clubs in robotics and aviation/rocketry.

Stanford also helped create what is now known as GTECH’s After School Advantage community giving program – which has donated 130 computer labs across the U.S. – when he successfully managed the building of a computer lab on behalf of the Greater Providence YMCA.

In 2002, he was appointed Adjunct Professor in both the Computer Science and Engineering Departments at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. Also in 2002, he received the Brown University graduate school’s highest alumni award. In 1999, Stanford received the Black Engineer of the Year Award for Professional Achievement, as well as the Honorable Thurgood Marshall award for community service from the NAACP.

Stanford also serves as Chairman of the board of the Rhode Island Business Innovation Factory and is on the board of Spectra Systems, a technology firm that specializes in optical security solutions.

Stanford holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations and a Master’s degree in Computer Science/Applied Mathematics, both from Brown University.
